Edgewater Studio’s Art Glass Mosaics Will Make This Girls’ Bathroom Dreamy
Did anyone else reading this post grow up in a home with 1.5 bathrooms used by 4 people? No marble, no soaker tub, no decadent shower heads, and certainly no artistic tile. Our bathrooms were clean, utilitarian and, well, dull. I can’t help but compare that to the lovely and inviting, yet functional bathroom that will be enjoyed by our client’s three young daughters.
Kim called us about 12 months ago. She and her husband were undertaking the construction of a new home, and Kim wanted to create some special touches in the master bathroom, and in her daughters’ bathroom. We will cover the Master Bath in another post – but here is the process and the progress to-date on the girls’ bath.
Kim classic taste has led her to choose Bianca Carrara as the “constant” throughout her Rhode Island home. She wanted to blend this with a feminine touch in the girls’ bathroom – something subtle that neither the girls nor the parents would tire of.
Step One – Choose the Design
Kim had seen our Maven Art Glass Mosaic in the glittering Jewel Blend, and knew immediately that this was the design that she wanted.
Step Two – Choose the Materials
The Maven Art Glass Mosaic is created with 5 to 6 colours. Of the 3 choices presented to her, Kim chose this blend of Petal, Opal, Glamazon, Lilac and Opal – beautiful against the light gray of the Bianca.
Step Three – Finalize the Location and Size of the Installation
Subsequent discussions eventually led to these elevation drawings. The initial plan was to create a feature wall in the shower. But as the home designs took shape, so did the desire to use the tile to tie in the rest of the room. We sent Kim images of mirrors, framed by tile, and voila!, we were creating a tiled mirror frame, edged by our own pencil rail tile in Petal. Finally, again using Petal, small subway tiles were added to the front of the bath. (Sorry about the size if this. We’re really not trying to cause eye strain!)
You will have to check back again to see the installation images. We can’t wait!
